Monday Meetings

Today's Monday Meetings is about....Mia Mortensen!

Mia Mortensen was born in Provo, Utah but has spent most of her life living on the beautiful central coast of California.  Although Mia dedicated most of her adolescent years to the performing arts, she has always loved traveling and exploring new cultures.  When Mia was a little girl she set a goal to learn one foreign language and to travel to ten countries before she died.  By age sixteen she managed to visit four.  After graduating high school, Mia took a trip to Mexico City by herself where she developed a sensitivity to poverty and a fascination for Latin culture.  She later became fluent in Spanish while serving an ecclesiastical mission for her church in Argentina from 2008 – 2010.  In the summer of 2011 Mia had her first experience with development work as an intern for HELP-International in El Salvador which solidified her passion for solving the complexities of poverty.

Mia is currently finishing up her B.A. in political science at Brigham Young University-Idaho.  At age 24 she has visited seven countries and is hoping to double her original goal.  Mia still of course enjoys performing.  She has performed in six shows on campus and has managed two.  Although she has high ambitions to go to graduate school and continue with international development work, Mia’s ultimate dream is to return to California, have a family of her own and work on making a difference within her
own community.
