World Water Day

Many of us take for granted turning on our hot showers every morning, washing our hands in clean water, proper plumbing and sanitation, and even being able to drink it daily.  But what we don't understand, is not everyone in the world lives that way.  Many people in countries where where water is scarce, have to walk several miles to a water source and carry it back, only to repeat the process day after day; while we move a knob and it comes out.  "Water scarcity affects one in three people on every continent of the globe...Almost one fifth of the world's population (about 1.2 billion people) live in areas where the water is physically scarce. One quarter of the global population also live in developing countries that face water shortages due to a lack of infrastructure to fetch water from rivers and aquifers (WHO)".  Today is World Water Day, March 22, named by the World Health Organization.  For more information on this subject, please read the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) found here.  Take some time today when you are bathing, drinking or whatever else you may be doing that involves water and the affects it has on your life and the lives of many others.

Here are some charities and organizations that are rallying together to provide clean water for those without.  Please check the following links and see what you can do today!!
